Click on each thumbnail for an enlarge view. This is a late-Victorian finger lamp, made by the Hobbs Glass Co. circa. 1885.
Note the
wonderful applied handle. (see cover, pp.151 & 152, and 225 in Thuro's Vol. 1, and page 104 in Volume 2).
The burner is an old undate #0 size Queen Ann style, plus a replacement 7.5" plain chimney. The lamp is not perfect: At some
past time the lamp must have been dropped, and the handle with part of the font attached broken entirely off. No slivers of glass or chips
went missing. I have used clear epoxy to restore it. It is now sound and holds oil without leaking. The second picture
points out the line of the crack. When immaculate this lamp books for $800.00, usually unobtainable by mere mortals!
